Peer Portrait

Cara is very nice and caring. She would like to have a singing voice. Being on her phone and hanging out with her friends are the main things she likes to do. She is a cheerleader, she can most often be found at practices. She also likes to go to applebee’s that’s one of her favorite restaurants. Cracking her knuckles is a habit that she would like to break. Her biggest phobia are spiders and cockroaches. Procrastination, her greatest flaw. If she had a super power, she would like to be invisible because she can be anywhere. She is in photography because she wants to learn how to take high quality pictures and she wants to be good at it. Taking pictures of the ocean is what she mainly likes.

Sketchbook Cover

How did you take the photograph?
With my phone, I like to take pictures with my phone because I always have it with me and it makes it easier for me to capture a moment.

Why is this photo good (compositional standpoint)?
My pictures are focused, I tried to brighten them and bring out the colors, I feel like that makes the picture more interesting and more alive. I have 2 panoramic pictures because I wanted to have a wide view of where I was.

Why do you value this photograph (sentimental standpoint)?
I value this photograph because they show my favorite places, the city where you can see all the different streets that you've you never seen before and the beautiful lights at night, my other favorite place which is being outside, nature, where you only hear the wind, you can feel so relaxed and amazed by all the beautiful things nature has.

What is your theme? How did you showcase you identity?
My theme is the value of capturing a moment and my different types of moods. I did like a collage of city and nature pictures.

How do the other images/text selected relate to your theme?
I have 2 different pictures in my cover, pictures of the city, which represents how sometimes I want to be around people and be somewhere busy but at other times I just want to be alone and be somewhere quiet and that represents nature.

Describe how you used the chosen principle of design.
I wanted to do a collage look but not just fill the page with photographs where you can't even see them completely. So what I did was I picked 4 of my favorite pictures and I cut them differently and arranged them so they have a different affect.

Blog Post #1: Qualities of a good photo

I noticed that the photographers look for the same things in their photos. They want emotion in their pictures, to see sadness or happiness. They want the picture to tell a story, have a meaning. Some think that to have a good photo you have to have focus, so you can see the important subject in your picture. I liked what Dario Endara said “The most important element of a good photograph is the ability of the photo to communicate with the viewer”. Some photographers find that a quality to a good photo is to be unique.

List of qualities of a good photo:
-Focus
-Lighting
-Background
-Story behind it
-Angle
-Steady
-The type of camera
