Composition

What is composition?
Composition is the arrangement of visual elements within the frame of a photograph.

Why is it important to understand & utilize composition in photography?
It is important because every texture, every color can become something wonderful. In photography you can express yourself and really be creative in your own opinion. Everybody's is different but it is perfect in it's own way.

Describe aspects of a "snapshot":
A snapshot is a casual record of some event, person or object. When you look at a snapshot the main thing you're looking at is a memory.

Describe aspects of a "photograph":
A photograph is, or should be, an artistic interpretation of an event, person or object. It should show not just what the subject is, but what it is like. And it should do so with impact and style.

"Photography is an art of discovery".

Quiz Group B

I've learned that the exposure triangle is very important when it comes to taking a picture. I've also learned the different settings a camera has like white balance that gives you different scenarios when taking a picture. Also how to blur a picture or keep it in focus you use the setting Av. There are different options you can use like Manual, Av, Tv and P.

This picture I took it in Manual settings so it was easy for me to just
focus everything.

           f/5.0
           1/25
      ISO 400
This picture has the background in focus but the hand is blurry.  I adjusted the shutter speed and tried to focus more on the background than the movement of the hand.

                             f/14.0
                             1/5
                              ISO 800
This is a selfie. I put the camera on the stairs and set the timer to take 1 shot in 10 seconds.

ISO 800

I tried to get a grainy look for this one, so I just really focused on the eye and made my ISO really high and cropped the picture in the sector I saw a more grainy texture.

White balance takes into account the color temperature of the light, which refers to the warmth or coolness of white light.

Why is it important to set your white balance?
It is important because it helps balance the color temperature in your pictures and depending on what you set it on that's how it's going to come out.

What is ISO?
It's the level of sensitivity of your camera to light.

How ISO works both technically (in camera) and visually (in photo).
In the camera it's the sensitivity level that is has towards light. The lower the ISO number, the less sensitive it is. The higher ISO, increases the sensitivity. Visually, it gets pictures to look with more or less exposure.

The relationship to the exposure triangle.
It helps to get more definition in your pictures, with the light to make it darker or lighter depending on the effect you want to bring out in the picture.

Shutter Speeds

What is shutter speed?
  1. The time for which a shutter is open at a given setting.

How shutter speed works both technically (in camera) and visually (in photo).

In the camera it's how fast or how slow the lens takes to open and close depending on the setting you have it on.

The relationship to the exposure triangle.

You can use it to freeze a picture or blur it. The exposure can be triangle's features (aperture, shutter speed, ISO) can be used to enhance the picture.

What is aperture?
Aperture refers to the opening of a lens's diaphragm through which light passes.

How aperture works both technically and visually:
The aperture is measured in "f stops". The lower f/stops give more exposure while the higher f/stops give less exposure.

The relationship to the exposure triangle:
It is an essential part of the exposure triangle. It's at the top and it helps with the lighting of the image.

Photo Themes

I thought it was a very fun project, you had to use your imagination to represent each theme in a different way.
As the end result it was easy to see the 25 pictures more clearly and organized.
My favorite picture is the one where my uncle is on top of the mountain. It was so fun to hike it and then we just sat there for a little and enjoyed the view.

Peer Portrait

Cara is very nice and caring. She would like to have a singing voice. Being on her phone and hanging out with her friends are the main things she likes to do. She is a cheerleader, she can most often be found at practices. She also likes to go to applebee’s that’s one of her favorite restaurants. Cracking her knuckles is a habit that she would like to break. Her biggest phobia are spiders and cockroaches. Procrastination, her greatest flaw. If she had a super power, she would like to be invisible because she can be anywhere. She is in photography because she wants to learn how to take high quality pictures and she wants to be good at it. Taking pictures of the ocean is what she mainly likes.
